Actos Lawsuit

Actos Lawsuit

Actos, or pioglitazone, is a diabetes medication that works by decreasing insulin resistance, and it is also being studied in the prevention of head and neck cancer. Unfortunately, the drug has reportedly caused adverse side effects for many patients and has caused even more problems for some people, which has resulted in Actos lawsuits. In fact, a five-year study from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reveals that patients who take Actos for more than a one-year period are at an increased risk of bladder cancer. Those with active bladder cancer may particularly be at risk of adverse reactions if they take Actos for a prolonged period, so in these cases, it is especially critical for doctors to prescribe other courses of treatment.

AARP has also reported that this type of medication can have adverse heart reactions by causing or worsening congestive heart failure. Because of this, people with certain conditions, such as a history of heart arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, or high blood pressure, are advised not to take Actos. However, not all patients may be aware that they have these medical issues prior to taking Actos, which can result in devastating side effects. It is extremely disheartening when someone takes a medication in hopes that it will help to improve—or at least effectively manage—an ongoing condition, and instead, it results in severe adverse reactions.

Patients taking Actos should carefully watch for the following signs, which may indicate potential heart failure:

  • Shortness of breath, especially during exertion or when lying down
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Swelling in the ankles, legs, and feet

Although heart failure and an increased risk of bladder cancer are some of the most extreme adverse effects of Actos, this medication can also cause a slew of other side effects. Even though most medications can have potential side effects, the list of common side effects that may occur when taking Actos is rather substantial, and some patients may be unaware of these side effects until it’s too late. For many patients, discussing these side effects beforehand and weighing the pros and cons of this particular medication is often beneficial, as some patients may be better off with a different treatment plan altogether. Patients taking Actos may also suffer from the following side effects:

  • Chest pain and/or tightness
  • Decreased urine output
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Teeth problems
  • Headache
  • Stomachache
  • Increased thirst and/or hunger
  • Muscle soreness or pain
  • Changes in weight, including weight gain and unexplained weight loss

For these reasons and more, many people who have been injured as a direct result of taking Actos have decided to take legal action. If you are currently waiting on an Actos lawsuit to settle, you may be wondering when you’ll receive compensation, but there isn’t a simple answer to this. Every case is unique, every settlement is different, and the specific details for each lawsuit will vary. In many cases attorneys typically prefer not to rush this process because they want to work on getting their clients the fair settlements that they deserve. In the meantime, however, you may have another option. Through a lawsuit advance, a plaintiff may qualify to receive some money ahead of the settlement. Contact USClaims today for more information and to find out if your Actos lawsuit is eligible for an advance.
